LAYBROOK LAKES

Approximately 2 miles from the junction of the A24 and the B2133to the northwest of Ashington on the B2133 (see map) there are three lakes in the Laybrook fishery; Byron, Milton and Shelley.

Byron averages a 5 foot depth , Shelley from 3 to 11 feet and Milton averages 6 feet. All three are stocked with Carp, Tench, Bream, Roach, Rudd, Pike and Perch as well as the inevitable eels.

This fishery has recorded catches of Carp to 25lbs, Tench to 8lbs, Pike to 18lbs. Perch to 4lbs, Roach to 2lbs and Bream to 7lbs with the bigger fish mostly being caught in Shelley and Milton. Byron is used mostly for pleasure fishing and matches because of the higher catch rate. Although Byron tends to contain the smaller fish some larger fish are there if you can entice them successfully. Floating baits are NOT permitted on Byron at all.

The car park is adequately sized and contains a toilet block. A key is required for the toilets and is provided to members for a small fee of £3. Access to all swims is easy with pathways laid around all the perimeters as shown in yellow on the schema above, some are specifically improved for disabled access.

Access to the fishery is from the B2133 through a gate, please close the gate behind you when entering and leaving and beware when entering/leaving because traffic moves quite fast on the roadway.
